Lay’s announces recall due to allergen risk

The renowned snack brand Lay’s has initiated a recall of its potato chips due to the potential risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction.

According to OkuAz, this announcement was made by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA classified the situation as “Class I,” indicating a serious risk level due to the presence of milk-containing ingredients that were not disclosed on the product label. This oversight poses significant health risks for individuals with milk allergies.

The recall process reportedly began in December 2024, when Lay’s parent company, Frito-Lay, identified that milk components were found in over 6,000 packages of chips sold in Oregon and Washington. Given the serious health implications, the FDA elevated the recall status to “Class I.”

Frito-Lay stated that no allergic reactions associated with the recalled products have been reported thus far. However, as a precautionary measure, the company is removing the affected products from the market to mitigate any potential health risks.

This incident follows a recent recall announcement from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Belgium, a subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company, which recalled products in Belgium, the UK, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, and Germany due to elevated chlorate levels.
