The Kremlin has confirmed that granting asylum to former Syrian President Bashar al Assad was a personal decision made by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This announcement comes at a time of heightened tension in the region, with ongoing discussions between Moscow, Ankara, and other key players regarding the situation in Syria.
The Kremlin also stated that President Putin currently has no plans to meet with Assad, indicating a cautious approach as the political landscape evolves. The Russian government emphasized its commitment to maintaining dialogue with regional partners and hinted at future discussions about Russian military bases in Syria once the situation stabilizes.
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, has further confirmed that Assad and his family are now in Moscow. On social media platform X, Ulyanov expressed Russia’s dedication to standing by its allies in challenging times.
This news comes in the wake of alarming reports from elements of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, who claimed they have gained full control of Syria’s capital and announced the release of all prisoners. Earlier, there had been swirling rumors regarding Assad’s fate, including unverified reports of his death in a plane crash.
